What does one do when the love of your life walks out on you days before your daughter is born?

They were supposed to be a happy family, staying the next chapter of forever. Instead, Cas finds himself alone in a death trap of an apartment with a screaming newborn, barely keeping it together.

Fred loves his baby sister. The rest of humanity? Not so much. When asked to check up on her friend that she was a surrogate for, he immediately obliges despite the annoyance he feels.

From the moment Cas opens the door, there's something there. Fred just might be the trade up Case needs to finally be able to let go of the past.

This story was originally a short within part of the We Shall Rise anthology for charity but has since been expanded into a complete story.
