A Special Place

Lacy 

Moving to Greengrove at eight years old was the worst thing that ever happened to me. 

I was always the outsider, the one who didn’t fit in. The other kids would laugh at me and push me around, and the teachers never seemed to care. No one seemed to care. Except James. I fell in love with him on my first day in Greengrove, and if it wasn’t for him, I don’t know what would have happened to me. 

As we got older, the childish antics fell away, but James was always around. There have been times I’ve wondered if we could be more, but I always snap myself out of it. The bullying may have stopped, but the scars it left still run deep. And no one knows how damaged I am better than him, so why would he ever love me?

I have wanted Lacy ever since I was old enough to make sense of what I was feeling.

She thinks she’s weak and insecure, but there is so much strength inside her. If only there was a way I could help her see it. 

I’m determined to tell her the truth. 

But when a childhood bully decides to interfere, real emotions are on the line, and when Lacy overhears a heated conversation, I worry I might lose her forever.
