Once upon a time, I lived in the Harmony Glen conservation area, hidden amongst the trees. Safe, but lonely. Then monsters stepped out of the shadows and integrated with the human world. Now, my home is in town, and I’m surrounded by friendly faces. But I’m still lonely.

When I come upon an unfamiliar human frolicking in the water of the conservation area, every vine of my being flourishes. She’s the one. I feel it in every drop of sap flowing through my veins. In my roots. Could such a beautiful, delicate creature look beyond my woody exterior and see me as more than a walking, talking tree?

One day, I’m living paycheck to paycheck in a tiny apartment that doesn’t even have a tub to indulge my love of water, and the next, I’m the new owner of a very old house in Harmony Glen, bequeathed to me by a relative I didn’t know I had.

Not only does the house have more than one soaker-sized bathtub, it’s a short walk from a stunning conservation area with waterfalls and natural pools. For the first time in my life, I feel like I belong somewhere. The more I go through my long-lost relative’s belongings, the more I understand why.

Generations-old family secrets aren’t the only thing I’ve unearthed since arriving. I know I’m not alone while exploring my love of water in the conservation area. I’ve seen the monster in the trees—the monster who is one of the trees—watching me. But I’m not afraid because I’m as drawn to the tree-man as I am to the water, and that has to mean something.

Though they once lived in secret, “monsters” have inhabited the earth as long as humans have walked the earth. As technology advanced by leaps and bounds, the ability to remain hidden dwindled. Earth’s non-human creatures faced a choice: allow themselves to be discovered, or step forward and introduce themselves. Either option could have ended badly for monsters and humans alike—and in some places, it did.

But not in Harmony Glen.

After The Great Revelation, Harmony Glen welcomed monsters with open arms. This small town in Upstate New York is now home to humans and non-humans! Integration has been so successful in Harmony Glen, the town even changed its motto to “Come for the harmony, stay for the happily ever after.”
