I have always been good at being there. Showing up. Having Olivia’s back when other people crossed the line. What I have never been good at is admitting I want more than friendship, especially when that friendship has been the safest thing in both our lives. When Olivia starts doubting herself again, listening to voices that never really learned when to stop, I know I have to say something. Growing up in Fellside meant growing up under a microscope, especially when you learn a little differently to everyone else. Rob was the one person who never made me feel like I needed fixing. Coming back to town stirs up feelings I thought I had neatly packed away, along with the familiar sting of family jokes that cut deeper than they should. When Rob encourages me to finally speak up for myself, it feels terrifying and exhilarating in equal measure. Losing him, even for a moment, makes one thing painfully clear. I cannot keep hiding from what I want, or who I love.
